GREAT job by a reader/commenter piecing together Daniel Rainsong's original CraigsList ad for this expedition. See here:

THANKS Kirk!!
Interesting stuff, but as I indicated briefly in a "Note" below an entirely different line of evidence, I'm not comfortable stating publicly, now causes me to place NO conceivable credibility whatsoever in this story/report. NADA... ZIPPO... ZILCH!!!!!! (hope I'm making myself clear).

Joe Hepperle has updated his website, deleting Rainsong's contact info as well as the names of the various authorities (Van Remsen, Mueller, Jackson, etc.) that had originally been mentioned. And there's this:
"More info on this breaking story... Jan 21, 2009 Dan was delayed in travelling [sic] due to the ice storm which passed through here recently.
Because of the Firestorm this discovery has created, Dan has asked me not to give out his phone number to anyone. He says he needs time to get this taken care of properly without distractions. Anyone may still contact me ( Joe Hepperle kjhepperle@gmail.com ) about this issue. If you have something to add I will try to pass the message to Dan. As of now (238 messages in Dan's email Inbox within a 2 hour period) Dan is ignoring his email (Summarily deleting most, actually)"
A Google search of Hepperle and Rainsong turns up a book on how to win at blackjack by Kenneth J. Hepperle and published (self published?) by Rainsong Research. Google "Rainsong Challenge" for Daniel Rainsong's connection to blackjack. This is not pejorative, of course; just an interesting association.
Okay, I think I'm done waiting. All of the sudden this guy Rainsong is looking a whole lot like the guy who claimed to have a frozen Bigfoot in an ice chest. Or maybe Hepperle is...
On that one we even had a hard time de-briefing some of the true believers on another site I frequent (in another identity).
So if I read below, the betting odds on it being a single person hoax should be 5-1. Can I put myself down for a ten spot on that one? Odds seem right...
BTW, even academics/scientists types can be taken in by this stuff. At least out here in Wild West. Google up Jeffrey Meldrum if you don't believe me (or watch for him on some of the History or Science Channel shows sometime).
