The Fak. Strand is just one of many areas in FL. (and other states) of interest to searchers. Certainly most folks now believe the species extinct. Unconfirmed encounters continue to trickle in, and official searching will resume (for one last season) this winter in hopes of the irrefutable photo required to change minds.

There was a search team down here in south Florida, in Fakahatchee Strand about a year ago.
The whole false sighting has me really confused:
