One can find literally hundreds of images of Ivory-bills on the Internet, ct. Do the ones you selected have any particular significance?
The significance is that there isn't a single modern image of a living bird.
Folks are always looking for ulterior motives to my posts, but no John L., no particular significance to the ones selected. I primarily wanted pics of stuffed (but real) IBWOs from different angles and views that I think are instructive, and hadn't already been widely disseminated across bird sites. I threw in one Cornell photo, since it's a classic pose, and one painting at the end which I thought was particularly good as well, and not widely seen. Finally, I wanted a couple of comparison shots of IBWO with PIWO, to exhibit their wide differences, in contrast with the notion that they are so confusingly alike.
In short, precisely because there are so many images on the Net I wanted to winnow it down to a group that I thought most helpful.
Thank you for posting this collection of links to Ivory-bill images! I maintain a group on Flickr called Ivory-billed Woodpeckers and Others in the Campephilus Genus that may be of interest to any of your readers who enjoy looking at photos of the Ivory-bill's relatives. The group currently has 561 images, and is a collection that will continue growing at http://www.flickr.com/groups/campephilus/
thanks for ibwo images...many i have never seen before - quite a long neck in #12
