-- Video Analysis and Assumptions --

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bill Pulliam has a new post (as he promised) wrapping up the analysis of the initially-interesting Collins Nov. 5 video from the Pearl; examining why folks were quickly, but falsely, enthused over the clip.

My assumption was that the bird was a common species. I then had a look at the video for any characters that would identify the bird as another, rarer species and it was pretty quickly apparent that the bird was a RHWO, as despite the low quality of the video, the white on the wing and rump combined with the overall structure of the bird gave this clear impression.

But as Bill said, it's fairly straightforward to see how expectation and wish took many people down the wrong road.
